Our public schools are
the considered the best in New York State. We have
little league, a highly rated (Coxsackie) Chess Club, a Mock Trial Team
for kids, and a new playground. There are churches of all
denominations. We have an active Chambers of Commerce
and community organizations, strong local government, and active
comunity leaders.
Between Coxsackie and Athens is Sleepy Hollow Lake, a
gated community of beautiful homes surrounding a pristine lake. It is a
perfect place for one to enjoy the county and have all of the
amenities one needs.
Greene County offers many kinds of
recreation in all seasons. Some of the best skiing in the east can be
experienced at Ski Windham
(35 minutes from Coxsackie), as
well as cross county skiing right here. There are several boat launches
and Marinas here for, boating and waterskiing.
We
have hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and several excellent golf
courses. In Greenville, Rainbow
Golf Club is a challenging 18 hole USGA Championship course.
In Freehold, Sunny Hill Resort and
Golf Course offer a challenging couse and gorgeous views. In
fall and winter there are plenty of opportunities for small
game and deer hunting.
There are many interesting areas to
explore by car, and plently of attractions in nearby towns to be
enjoyed
on foot, as well as on bycyle. We have restaurants, antique shops, and
drive-in movie theators. Our Community is growing economically thriving.
Nearby Hudson, accross the Rip Van
Winkle Bridge, is an flourishing antiques center, with many shops and
great restaurants. There is an Amtrak
station in Hudson, which makes
traveling back and forth to New York City a pleasure.
There are many historic sites in
Greene County; the Thomas Cole
National Historic Site, The Bronck Museum, The Vedder Memorial
Library, Van Loon House, to name a few. There are also fine
examples of period architecture and and historically significant
buildings
The most valuable
asset to our comminity is the natural beauty of our surronding area.
Beautiful parks and nature preserves border the Hudson River. The
Catskill Mountains rise majestically in the west and stage dramatic
sunsets; everyone more spectacular then the last. The mighty Hudson
River and the rolling Berkshire Mountains in the east provide vistas
that have been unchanged for centuries.
